Play soccer for a mine-free world

Adopt-a-Minefield GloBallCup is a unique sporting event in Europe and in the World. The cup takes place in the town of Enköping in Sweden and is open to international youth teams between 10 – 15 years of age, including teams for disabled persons.

The event was initiated by the Swedish United Nations Association during the UN International Year of Sport in 2005. GloBallCup aims to raise awareness about the United Nations and its work towards a mine-free world.

During the tournament the Adopt-a-Minefield campaign present information about its work, increasing public awareness on the use of landmines and raise money towards UN mine action and clearance.

GloBallCup takes place each year during the annual Enköping Harbour Festival. This also offer participants and parents an opportunity to enjoy a variety of activities, such as concerts, an amusement park, traditional Swedish games, a chance to try out mine-clearing at a mock minefield, and much, much more.

Why come to GloBallCup?

  • You get to play against national and international teams
  • Have fun in the amusement park and harbour festival with well-known Swedish artists
  • Take part in activities for players, parents and team-leaders
  • Everything lies within close proximity of each other
  • Stockholm and international airport is only 45 minutes away
  • Lodging for teams is available in dormitories

Moreover, we see that dialogue and mutual understanding between people is a prerequisite for peace and sustainable development around the world. The importance of the UN is increasing and a strong UN is needed more than ever before.

Adopt-a-Minefields' GloBallCup encourages and channels young people's interest in global issues – football becomes a natural arena for this commitment, partly because it is the world's biggest sport and partly because football, as the UN, is a meeting place for people and cultures from all over the world.
